Causes of Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth Sensitivity
Often times when we eat something cold or hot, we feel a strong sensation at the deep of our tooth. This is called tooth sensitivity. You can feel the same while sipping a cold drink or while having a tea. Many people experience the same feeling when they brush or floss their teeth. There are some tips that you can use to lower the sensitivity at the tooth. Prolonged sensitivity that is not reported to the dentist may lead to damaged tooth. According to Dr. Ronda, dentist Downtown Edmonton, the sensitivity can be minimized by using some of the techniques and can save your trip to the Dental clinic facilities. Here are some tips.

  • Use The Right Brush And Technique
Many people have misconception that if they are going to use hard brush for brushing, then it will clean their teeth in a much effective manner. Contrary to popular belief, using the hard brush can damage your gums and may wear down the protective layers of the teeth. There are many microscopic canals and hollow tubes that run along the nerves of the teeth and you need to be careful with the way you brush your teeth. When the tubules of the teeth are exposed, they cause sensitivity in the tooth. Always use a soft bristle brush and brush in a gentle strokes and manner. You can get the techniques of brushing at the good Dental clinic facilities where the dentist will guide you towards the right way of brushing.

  • Avoid Acidic Foods
Lower down the intake of the acidic foods like Sauce, lemon, kiwis, grapefruit and pickles. They result in sensitivity and will cause you more pain. Stick to the foods that have lower acidic content.

  • Don't Grind The Teeth
Many people have a habit of grinding their teeth while talking or while eating the food. Grinding the teeth will cause damage to the enamel and will eventually expose the dentin that is the middle layer of the tooth. The middle layer consists of the tubes that lead to the nerves of the teeth. When they are exposed, you feel sensitivity when you eat anything. Take the help of the dentist to get a mouth guard that will prevent you to grind your teeth. The guard can be custom made to fit your mouth perfectly.

  • Don't Use Tooth Whitening Products
Many tooth whitening products that are available in the market use chemicals to bleach the teeth. Most people have more sensitive teeth and using these products will make the teeth more prone to damage.

  • Stay Away From Using Too Much Mouthwash
Just like the whitening products, the mouthwash and rinses that are available in the market have alcohol content and other chemical compositions that harm the teeth in the prolonged usage. If you are using mouthwash more than necessary, then it will make your teeth more sensitive. Try fluoride rinses and stick to brushing and flossing to have fresh breath.
