How to Prevent Bad Breath

It can be quite embarrassing if someone complains that your breath smells. Bad breath can lead to socially awkward situations. It can send you running to the bathroom for a quick gargle or on a hunt for mint.

Bad breath is results of food particles that have gotten trapped in your mouth. 80% of the time it is due to bad oral hygiene. It can also be caused by various stomach conditions.

What can you do about bad breath?

Brush your Teeth Regularly
The most common cause for a person to have bad breath is because they don't brush their teeth daily. Every morning when you get up and in the night before you hit the sack, spend a few minutes brushing your teeth.

Give your Tongue a Scrape
Quite a bit of food matter gets layered onto your tongue. If you haven't been scraping it, now is the time. There is no need to do it daily, but at least once a week regularly clean your tongue and get rid of the layer of food particles.

Floss your Mouth
Often the bad breath maybe caused by food particles that may be stuck in crevices and gaps between your teeth. Flossing is a very good way to pull out those food particles.

Keep Drinking Plenty of Water
One of the best ways to ensure you don't have a bad breath throughout the day is to frequently drink water. You keep your mouth moisturized and wash away any food particles. Especially drink water after you have a meal or drink carbonated drinks.

Eat the Right Foods
Eating the right foods brings the right freshness to your mouth. Citrus fruits contain high levels of Vitamin D which are great for oral hygiene. Fruits with fiber like celery are a great help in removing food stuck between your teeth.

Chew Gum
Gum contains mint which helps clear out bad breath. Additionally, it helps keep the mouth moisturized and fresh.

Give up the Coffee
Coffee contains sugar and it is hard to get the beverage smell out of your mouth. Rather you should switch to herbal or green tea. It adds a great fragrance to your mouth and is a healthier option than coffee.

Watch the Alcohol
Liquor causes dryness in your mouth which is conducive for bacteria to give out a bad smell. If you do drink alcohol, make sure you drink sufficient water later on.

Bad breath can't be worse if it is a problem at the professional workplace. Can you imagine if you go for a meeting and your boss or a colleague 'informs' you that your breath is stinking?

Keep these steps in mind and prevent the issue of bad breath from ever coming up.
