Dental Emergencies
You have a perfectly healthy set of teeth, because you don't feel any discomfort or see anything wrong or unusual with your teeth, right? Wrong! Well, when it comes to teeth, then the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't really proves a good idea. Most people really can't tell if there is something wrong with their teeth, unless they visit a dentist or problem aggravates.

Have a look at these interesting dental facts:

Gum disease or periodontal disease is the main reason of tooth loss all across the globe. This is basically a condition in which you lose the bone that surrounds your teeth, so that even healthy teeth may come out.

A huge number of people who get diagnosed with cavities didn't even know in first place that they have had a cavity.

A large number of patients who grind or clench their teeth, experience issues like cracked teeth, chipped or worn-out teeth.

These things can be really confusing and that is likely why at some point many people find themselves meeting a dental emergency. Some emergencies are due to accidents. But, most of the dental emergencies are caused due to negligence. So here are a few simple ways on how to avoid dental emergency.

  1. If you clench or grind your teeth, wear a custom night guard. This habit of clenching or grinding teeth is termed as Bruxism. And recently it has been observed that it is increasing among individuals. Undoubtedly, stress plays a crucial role in this, but if you are diagnosed with bruxism don't take it lightly because its effects can be really harmful.
  2. Never skip brushing and flossing your teeth. There is just no alternate for prevention. Brushing and flossing your teeth at least two times in a day or after every meal, proves to be really helpful in protecting you from oral diseases, including bad breath and yellow teeth.
  3. Visit your dentist regularly. This will help you ensure that your teeth stay healthy and beautiful for long, as well as prevent any major expensive treatments or surgeries. Dentists use advanced gears and tools to check your mouth for cavities or any gum disease.
  4. If you are a sportsperson, always use an athletic mouth guard. Sports are not only fun but they are also a great exercise. But, they can also cause teeth to get knocked out, kicked out or punched out. Use only a professionally built mouth guard.
  5. Never use your teeth to open bottles or cans. No matter what, don't do it. We have restored innumerable teeth after people tried to hold or open objects with their teeth. Use a plier or a scissor or a bottle opener to carry out the job. Remember teeth are for chewing food.

Babies are a bundle of joy in every home. They bring laughter, fun and enjoyment to every household with their cute innocent activities. But, what happens when they start crying due to tooth pain or a cavity? This may surprise you, but cavities and bad breath are really popular in toddlers. And as they are still very young to take of their oral health on their own, it is up to you as a parent to do the essential remedies to assist them fight cavities and stinky breaths.

If we particularly talk about bad breath in toddlers then it can be caused due to various different factors. It may be due to buildup of cavity and tartar, poor oral hygiene, throat infection or dehydration. Use of pacifiers and thumb sucking can also add in toddler's bad breath. To fight this and more oral problems, it is important that you take care of their proper dental health and use tips to prevent foul-smelling breath and cavities in your bundle of joy.

Dental care of a little one begins with the appearance of the first tooth. Cleaning teeth as well as gums with water, two times in a day especially after feeding is recommended.

If your bundle of joy is 2 years old or above then you should teach him or her the correct method of brushing. However, until the age of 6, kids find it hard to brush their teeth properly, so supervising them is essential. Use toothbrush with soft bristles with pea-sized children's toothpaste because too much fluoride is harmful.

Always tell your kid to rinse teeth after drinking artificial fruit juice and soda drinks and after eating chocolate and candy, because the sugar content is sweetened products increases the process of decay and causes cavities.

Take proper care of your kid's diet. You should give them diet containing vegetables and fruits. Also, maintain the optimum amount of water intake.

If your child is active in sports, make sure he wears a mouth-guard; this will help in avoiding sports related injuries.

Restrict the sugar intake of your child to decrease the chances of tooth decay. Do not leave a feeding bottle filled with juice or milk stuck in their mouth when they are sleeping. As already said, the sugar present in these drinks will aid in teeth decay.

Regular dental checkups are also important. A lot of people think that visiting a dentist is not necessary when their children are young. This might sound surprising, but children often start getting cavities even before they are 4 years old. According to AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) almost 40-50% of kids are diagnosed with dental decay before the age of 2. Thus, it is recommended that every child sees a dentist by their 1st birthday.

Prioritize dental health of your kid by asking your pediatric dentist about preventive measures and treatments for cavities.

DENTAL EMERGENCIES: Dental clinic in Edmonton
Many dental problems develop overtime without giving you any symptoms apart from the cavities and plaque. You may suddenly experience pain and sensitivity at the teeth and then may need an emergency dentist care. Dental emergencies can be dealt with at home if you know how to take care of certain things. Here are the few problems that can take severe turn if neglected at early stages.
  • Cracked and broken tooth
If you notice a cracked tooth, then it's the time to call up your dentist and fix an appointment. Getting help from the best dentist clinic is always recommended at such cases.
  • Braces
If you have braces or if you need one then you need to consult an orthodontist. Damaged braces needs to be corrected on immediate basis otherwise they can damage the teeth permanently.
  • Loose teeth
If you have a lose teeth then you must go to your dentist immediately. A partially dislodged tooth can be damaged permanently if it's not taken care of on time. To counter the pain, take a recommended dose of pain killer till you reach the dentist.
  • Knocked out tooth
If you fell down and broke a tooth, then grab it and rinse it fully to get rid of any dirt and grime. Avoid scrubbing the tooth as it may wash of the tissues that may be attached at the root of the tooth. You may try to insert the tooth into the socket from where it came off, and if it doesn't work, then rush to the nearest dentist immediately. American Dental Association recommends placing the broken tooth in a pot of milk till you get the required medical attention. To avoid the bleeding, place some ice on the affected area to relieve the pain and the bleeding.
  • Crown coming off
If the filling or the crown that you had in the tooth came off, then make sure you are keeping the crown or the filling at the safe place till you reach dentist. Applying clove oil to the gap relieves you off the pain and the sensitivity.
  • Painful swelling between the gums
If you are experiencing painful swelling then check for anything that may be lodged between the gaps of the teeth, if you are able to find anything, then gently floss away the object without applying too much pressure. If the swelling and the pain persists, then you may be having a case of abscess that often results in the pus formation. In that case visit emergency dentist immediately and try rinsing the mouth with salt water to ease you off the pain.
  • Toothache
This is one of the most general problems that people face. If your tooth paining and is aching between the joints then rinse your mouth with salt water and try brushing the teeth with very light pressure. If the pain still persists, then call up your dentist and fix an appointment.

Dental Health at Every Age

DENTAL HEALTH AT EVERY AGE
Taking care of the dental health has no specific age. The dental care is important right from the early stage till the old age. In dentistry, it is always recommend that you not only take good care of your gums and teeth, but you should also visit your dentist once every three months to make sure your oral health perfect. The dental service over the past few years have improved vastly and now you have the Best dentistry in Edmonton.  We are going to discuss which healthy dental habit you should follow to have a life time of sparkling smile.

1. Dental health for children

The oral health of the children should be taken care of properly form the early stages. They should be given habit of brushing their teeth twice a day. According to Dr. Kuntz of infinity dental – “Children who brush their teeth on a regular basis develop healthier gums that build a platform of strong teeth for years to come”. The toothpaste and toothbrush recommended by the ADA (American Dental Association) should be given to children and they should be taught the importance of maintaining healthy oral care.

2. Dental care for adults

With the age, an adult starts to develop oral problems if they don’t take care of the teeth the way they should be taken care of. This results in premature decay of the tooth and gum problems. It is highly recommended for the adults to have healthy eating habits and have regular dental examinations to avoid every dental related problem.  Dr. Fray, of one of the Best dentistry in Edmonton recommends regular dental service and check for the patients who suffer from prolonged dental illness. Part from the checkups, it is advisable for the adults to have healthy brushing and flossing habits.

3. Eating habits

Apart from the dental care, the eating habits of the individual have a lot to do with the overall oral health. People who are into eating too much of sugar are in constant risk of decayed teeth and gums as sugar gives the best thriving environment to the bacteria in the mouth. This accelerates the process when you eat something sweet before going to bed and you don’t brush your teeth. Smaller yet significant things always lead to the bigger dental problems in the longer run.
To make sure that you are having the right and balanced diet for the healthier gums and teeth, follow the diet chart that is prescribed by your dentist after examining your gums and teeth. Make sure that you stick to the diet chart and the brushing regime that is been advised to you. In modern dentistry much advancement has taken place and now there’s nothing in the oral health that cannot be taken care of. But as they say, prevention is better than cure, you should always make sure to have regular brushing habits and visit your dentist once in four months.

Signs of a bad dentist

Bad dentist
Finding a reliable dentist is necessary to ensuring the health and long life of your teeth and gums. Sadly, not all dentists are same. Despite the fact that there are severe training requirements and intensive regulations related to patient care, still some bad dentists exist. So, how to differentiate between a good dentist from a bad dentist? Eventually, if you have good terms with your Sherwood Park dentists, you feel he/she respects you, and you trust him/her, then you have certainly found yourself a good dentist. However, these signs of a bad dentist are all obvious signs that you should consider finding a new dentist.

Disorganized:  Firstly, medical environments should be hygienic and sterile and a disorganized office may be your first sign that things are not properly cleaned. In addition, disorganization may be the indication of poor management skills and business. Clinic of your dentist should be well-organized and tidy, dusted, and swept. Everything should look organized. Dentist as well as staff members should wear gloves when working with the clients.

Dentists who talk to other patients or busy on their cell phone while consulting or treating you: A dentist should be focused. A procedure can go in the wrong direction if the dentist who is performing the procedure is not focused. The poorly performed procedures can cause problems later. The lack of focus of dentists also shows their unprofessionalism. During your visit to Sherwood Park dentists, you should expect your dentist to be focused on you.

Prescribing costly operations for small tooth problems: There are many dentists in Edmonton, who prescribe root canals for a tooth that only has a cavity and by filling the cavity the problem, can be solved. They usually suggest costly, unnecessary X-ray diagnoses as they get commission from the radiographer for each patient they refer.

So, when looking for a dentist in Edmonton, ensure that you keep these things in mind to ensure that you hire only the best and reliable dentist.
